Chrissy Adkins Right after the flood, I started at the mouth of the creek, where we were just down there to look at the river, and we were able to… We just kept going down there every day and sitting, and people started bringing supplies and stuff. So, I sat down there. We were just in awe. We just couldn’t. I mean, it was unbelievable.
Just you know, it was hard to imagine that water being up that high. And where we were standing, we would have been covered with the flood. So it was hard. A lot of people had a hard time picturing. And even looking at it, it’s hard to believe it’s still where we live. It just… it’s just hard. It looks like a whole different place.
But I started helping people get water and stuff, and started arranging it and keeping it neat. And because people bring it and they just throw it down. Well, then it got too busy down there because big old trucks were coming and bringing rocks and stuff. They were already trying to fix the roads and make stuff passable.
And so then we moved up to the Bee Log Church up the road, about a mile and a half up Ball Mountain. And we were working out of the church there. I started a clinic. I’m also a nurse. So I started a clinic there where if anybody had gotten hurt or needed stuff done that they couldn’t get done because they couldn’t get to town, that was already going on. So it was pretty cool. People coming in, everybody dropping everything off, helicopters coming in.
I really didn’t have a whole lot of time to think about anything because I was right there in the middle of all that, just telling people where to go, where to put stuff. And then we ended up moving into the Bee Log School, and we’ve been there since.
We’re still going. Trying to make a community center out of it, but just the people everybody come there, and they really kind of needed the help but didn’t want the help. So they were, you know, stubborn backwoods people is what they were. Being from around here, they just didn’t want to take stuff. You know, but yeah, it was pretty neat to be able to help everybody and do what they needed.
