I feel like coming back home.

Gathering:

Prompt: How does it feel to return to the place you were born?

This story was excerpted from an interview in September 2026 with Dee and Dewey Lewis Robinson.

Dewey Lewis Robinson  I feel like coming back home.

Alli Crandell  And what’s important about this place?

Dewey Lewis Robinson  Well, I grew up over here on Piney Hill last day I went school up on the hill up there in that church, and it’s like coming home to just come by the old place, you know.

Alli Crandell  And you said that you, your daughters, two of your daughters were born here, and you were born here.

Dee Robinson Okay, I’ll answer that one. Okay, my sister Laykla Robinson Miller and Chris Delane Robinson. They were both born here in the hospital. You had brothers and sisters that was born here.?

Dewey Lewis Robinson  I had born brother Eddie. He was born here.

Dee Robinson I absolutely love this area of the mountains. We lived on Piney Hill. I probably left when I was six or seven and moved to Burnsville. And then this is like it’s like coming back home to me as well. I just love the mountains. I get real sentimental when I come up here because of the memories that I have when I was a really young girl.

Alli Crandell  Yeah

Dee Robinson You know, even moving into Burnsville, I have a lot of good memories. So it’s it’s memories that I cherish when I come back up here. Yeah.
