This story is excerpted from a interview conducted in Rushville in August 2026 by Owen and Marlene Davis.

Marlene Davis: Well, we never lived in town to have [a paper route], but we have a mailman that comes around and delivers our mail in the country, and I suppose they, you don’t get a paper just thrown at your house and you, you just, yeah, or mail. They all have boxes, and they don’t don’t do that anymore at all.  

Shyanne Bellamy: We get phone books a lot. They still do phone books for some reason. 

Marlene Davis: Oh yeah. Hmm. Because phone books are kind of outdated. I mean, I mean, you you can’t send somebody a Get Well card or a Sympathy card because you don’t know their addresses anymore. Used to be able to look them up, and now I wish they had one for cell phones, because yeah, there’s a lot of times you’d like to send a card and you have no idea where to send it. So that’s kind of a sadness. It’s not around anymore.
