My name is Marilyn Robertson Cotney, and I live down in Hardscrabble Holler which is now Mathis Road. And it’s a paved road now, which blew me away.

My ancestors homesteaded up in that holler in the 1800s. I was born here on July 4th, 1952. I didn’t spend the night. Actually, the clinic wasn’t open in the 4th of July, and I was home a few min- 20 minutes after I was born. The first person that came and seen my mother was her girlfriend called Marilyn, and that’s where I got my name from, Marilyn. Guess that’s about it. I never was brought here for clinic reasons or anything like that.
