We were a close-knit community

Gathering:

Prompt: What is something special about your community you would like other people to know?

Well, I tell you, we are a close-knit community, and we would borrow stuff from each other. We wouldn’t go to the store if we run out of coffee. She’d say, “Go down, go down to Pearls, or go down to- get me some, get us some coffee, till we get to the store,” and we borrowed from each other in the same token. And if we had abundance of something that would grow, hey, we saw that they got it. You know, they, we looked out for each other. It was a real close, close ties, what I’m trying to say, and we got away from that. Yeah, I know my- I live in McDowell. I know my close neighbors, you know, and I’ve got friends, and we go to church there, and you gain friends that way. But when we were little, we walked to church. We walked from home off the mountain and went to West Burnsville Church in Burnsville, see we were over on Jack’s Creek side, on Burnsville side of the mountain, on the Burnsville side of Green Mountain.
