I remember when we got electricity. Before we had electricity, we’d come to town. They had lockers in town before they kept closing, so we’d pick up meat or something. And better than that, we -they canned meat when they butchered. They would butcher out in the country, I remember coming home from school, and they butchered meat. They were, and I think most that was, I think that was after we had deep freezers. But a lot of that, it was canned. They cook it and can it. Pork was, we always doing pork out pigs, and my grandmother said that they would take the lard and cook the pork chops and stuff, and then put big crocks and fill with lard so it would preserve it that way. So when you wanted a pork chop, they’d pull it out of the lard and heat it up.

I don’t think anybody raises hogs anymore, but it used to be a perfect hog country because the sale barn always had hog sales on Monday, and then their special sale on Wednesday. They’d sell hogs and a few cattle logs and hens, and hogs would you know there’d be two or 3000 head of hogs they’d sell a day out there.
