I live in Clinton, Nebraska. I went to school in Clinton. It was considered a country school, but it was K-12. They had a high school until 1944, and it was always cool to be from Clinton because it was such a big school. I always thought, and literally grew out of town, little town base school. But anyway, when we got ready for high school, it was only K when I went there, and we could either go to Gordon or Rushville.

Back in the day, you had to go into your district. You had to, if you lived in a certain district, you had to go to school in that district, and that’s the way it was at country school, too. You couldn’t choose.

Nowadays. I think you can pretty much choose where you want to go, but Clinton had the option when you went to high school, you could either go to Gordon or Rushville because it was equal distance, basically, to either town, and I chose to go to Rushville.

My maiden name is Cerny, It’s a Bohemian name, and we have always traded in Rushville rather than any other community, so I don’t know why they chose it. It’s a nice town.
