Laykla Miller: I’m Laykla Miller. I was a Robinson. I was born here. I’m 63 years old now. Oh, I’m 63. What else?
Dietra Robinson Smith: On, just chiming with me. My name is Ditra Robinson Smith. I was not born here, but I was raised partially on Piney Hill. I moved from Piney Hill to Burnsville, and then went from moved there, went to Greenville, Tennessee, and then back, and I went to Green Mountain, where my cousin Sandy lives right now, and stayed there for a while, and then eventually moved back to Tennessee with my family down there. I was living with family in Burnsville and in Green Mountain.
Anyway, I enjoyed living on Piney Hill. My memories include I can remember when the hurricane came through and wiped out a crop: a corn crop, I think. Okay, that was in front of our house. We lived in a little two-bedroom house with no bathroom, but we had property.
I enjoy the mountains. You could look out our house and see something called. It’s a place up on top of the hill called the Wildcat. I remember the Wildcat, and I loved going up there because it was just a little two-lane road.
Laykla Miller: Remember seeing the panthers up there?
Dietra Robinson Smith: Yes, we would. Yes, see that was good because I had forgotten that we have a lot of wildlife back in those days. I am 65, so that was some odd years ago that we would see the panthers and all kind of distant, unusual animals up there in the mountains. It was hilly. I remember an apple tree on top of the hill, right beside the house. It was rusty apples, and I remember my great grandma. I would stay with her during the day, and then we would go. She would send me up there to get apples.
Laykla Miller: Did you make apple butter?
Dietra Robinson Smith: No, we just sat there and ate apples.
Laykla Miller: Do you remember the house catching on fire when I was born? They took me home from here.
Dietra Robinson Smith: Yes, I do. And then, oh, I could get emotional here, but I remember that was the favorite place that I have ever lived in my life, and I think things would have been a lot different if we had continued to live there as a family. But I remember, like the rusty apple tree, we had raspberry, raspberry bushes at a spring.
Laykla Miller: Do you remember the Ravencliff?
Dietra Robinson Smith: I remember the Ravencliff, Yes. They say they’re saying here, just in case you you need to know, I have the gift of gab, but I don’t. My memories are special to me because no one can take those away. But I remember the spring where we would get water. I remember the little place where we used to have to go potty. I remember the barn and the cows at the barn and the animals there. Are you telling me that’s enough? Okay, I’m going to pass this on to my other cousin, and I’m going to ignore my sister Layk right beside me.
Layla Maya Alexsander: So I’m Layla Maya Alexander. I was born in Spartanburg, I think. I don’t know. My birthday’s in two weeks, so technically I’m 15. I come up here with my mom and my aunt and we visit family and my paw paw and yeah I just like being up here it’s really fun and naturey a little too nature, but still yeah and too many bugs yeah okay go ahead Aunt Sandy.
Sandra Robinson Hughes:I’m Sandra Robinson Hughes my dad was Warren Robinson he was raised on Piney Hill, I was born here. My brother Randell Robinson was born here, and Mama. Every time we’d pass one in Piney Hill, Mama would say, “You were born on one side of the door, and my brother was born on the other side of the door in the rooms on the other side. And every time she’d tell us that, and I used to know where which one was, left side or right side, but I don’t know more. But I’ve always wanted to come here and see it because, like I said, it was special. But I loved coming down in here. My grandpa and grandma and all that. So yes.
Dietra Robinson Smith: And I would like to introduce my daddy. He’s 92 years of age. His name is Dewey Laura Robinson. Okay, and he’s the brother to Sandy’s daddy, and our grandparents is Ruby and Noah Robinson. And they were born on the what was it? Same Branch. It’s called Same Branch. They raised their family on Same Branch. What a name, right? Same. Branch.
Layla Maya Alexsander: Okay, mom, we we get it. No, it’s a bit different area.
Dietra Robinson Smith: But anyway, they’re both deceased now. But those are those are some of my favorite people there too, as well. And we have another brother, Laykla and I have another brother that was born here. His name is Chris. Chris Robinson. I don’t know how old he is. 61. Yeah, he’s 62 years of age, and he was born here. Yes, but I don’t know where. But anyway, I’m gonna let my sister talk now.
Laykla Miller: Your sister can’t talk.
Dietra Robinson Smith: Okay, you can ask the questions now
