I had an uncle that lived in that house

Gathering:

Prompt: What was it like growing up in Yancey County?

I had an uncle that lived in that house right over there. His name was Sheridan Silver, his wife, and they-they had a bunch of boys and girls, and we’d come and have dinner with them, and same token, they’d come and have dinner with us. That was, that was, and just country food. And when we’d come down here, we all us boys would get together, and we loved to come because the church up there on the hill had a big set of swings, I mean huge, and we- after we’d eat, we’d hit the trail and go up there, just go up that road, and it’s like going to a fire. See, we didn’t have swings. If we had a swing, we made it out of a grapevine in the woods and stuff. But them, they were great, big- it’s like a playground, and that was so much fun, and I’ll never forget that. And we’d go up there and play. Have the best time ever was. And while they sat on the porch and talked…. yeah, yeah.
