the little old ice houses

Gathering:

Prompt: What is something that is no longer here, but still lives on in your heart?

This story was excerpted from an interview in September 2026 with Charlotte and Tonya Huskins.

Charlotte Huskins  Yeah, I saw my brother said that. I heard the flood and stuff come down. Took everything out with the little old ice houses. Everybody, you know, had one back in the bank, and that’s the one up there at the house. That part’s still there, and I remember we always kept milk in there, even though we had a refrigerator in the house, don’t ask me why, but it was always cool in there. They had to, you know, the trough with the water, and the water would run out.
