This story was excerpted from an interview in September 2026 with Charlotte and Tonya Huskins.
Charlotte Huskins Yeah, it was my brother Roger, the one that was born down here too. He’s a year, a little over a year older than me, about a year and a half older than me.
Tonya Huskins Well, it was really muddy that day, and it was bad enough getting up to the graveyard, and we’re all got our heads bowed, and we’re, we’re doing the prayer-
Charlotte Huskins and she’s standing behind me
Tonya Huskins -and you know everybody’s got their head bowed, and we’re trying to you know be reverence, and everybody’s standing completely still, and for some reason, my feet literally come out from under me, up above my head, and literally next thing I know, they’re lowering the casket, and my feet literally go towards the hole. And without, I mean, I’m trying to be quiet, and before I know it, she grabs me by the back of my dress, and with me and her both silent, don’t say a word. She snatches me and grabs me back, and everybody’s like, you can hear everybody go. And I mean, literally, I mean, it’s like the worst scene of the worst horror movie you’ve ever seen. I could see it. You know, I’m fixing to go under the casket in the hole, and she saves me right, and everybody’s like horrified that I’m for this man’s burial.
